Subtel and Huawei to conduct cable between China and Chile pre-feasibility study

The project of a submarine cable that linked both countries arose during Pedro Huichalaf's management as head of the Undersecretariat of Telecommunications (Subtel). Now, its successor Rodrigo Ramírez, signed an agreement with the vice president of Huawei Chile, Dong Xiaozhou, in what is a first step to gather information of the characteristics of the initiative.

"This is the kick-off for a Chinese-Chilean fiber optic cable. With this pre-feasibility study we will analyze which routes are possible, how much the project costs. This means that we have signed a very important economic agreement for the country", said Ramirez, who this week will travel to China to meet with other parties involved in the project.
