CES 2018

The 5G race moved to the stage in Las Vegas

Hans Vestberg, CTO of Verizon, brought to the central conferences of CES 2018 the issue that has been occupying US operators for several weeks: who will be the first to offer commercial 5G services. The former CEO of Ericsson said that Verizon will do it before AT & T (which foresees the launch by the end of this year), and in the 2019 edition of CES will be showing on stage its 5G network in operations.

"For 5G, one can make different layers (" slices "). Now we are focusing on one layer, which is basically residential broadband to deliver faster superior performance to the market. This is a use case. We can talk about many others, "explained Vestberg. In his presentation, he was accompanied by the president of Qualcomm, Cristiano Amon, and together they anticipated that the deployments of 5G will consist of a combination of bands, including casualties, in order to create a coverage layer of lower bandwidth, and mmWave spectrum to offer performance aimed at applications with lower latency and greater capacity.

Government analyzes partial privatization of Copaco

The state operator is going through a delicate moment. Its income does not cover operating expenses and it must fulfil a debt obligation of US$110 million. Furthermore, the lack of investments led to the obsolescence of its infrastructure. Oscar Stark, president of the firm, states that alternatives are being evaluated to obtain the necessary funds, including the possibility of adding private partners. And he believes that in 18 months "the situation will be resolved."
