Citel Assembly to promote revision of digital agendas

The Assembly of the Comisión Interamericana de Telecomunicaciones (Citel) (Inter-American Telecommunications Commission), which reports to the OAS, begins today in Buenos Aires. The debate agenda includes the strategic plan 2018-2022 and a proposal for revision of CITEL regulations, as well as the election of the members of the Permanent Executive Committee (COM/CITEL). Oscar León, Secretary General of CITEL, told Convergencialatina that Buenos Aires declaration project includes a proposal to broaden the participation of actors in the sector, such as SMEs and universities.

León explained to Convergencialatina that the Strategic Plan 2018-2022 adds to CITEL's usual topics the promotion of digital financial inclusion and the development of a digital regional market. "We have to promote the updating of the digital agendas of the region and generate homogeneous bases for the deployment of infrastructure", said the secretary of the agency. In addition, the plan highlights the demand for interoperable ICT development, including infrastructure, services, equipment and devices.

América Móvil's earnings fell 55% due to peso strength

It reached US$ 790 million in the first quarter of the year. Total revenues and Ebitda were also affected by the extraordinary income from the sale of towers, which boosted the result of a year earlier.
