Discussion of "short law" in Argentina reaches the CLT

During the panel "Public policies for the development of infrastructure", Héctor Huici, ICT secretary of Argentina, said that they sent to the Senate the "short law" bill (which includes the possibility for telephone operators to provide DTH, infrastructure sharing obligations and bidding for Arsat frequencies) "to encourage investment with greater competition and for the user to have more and better services".

On the other hand, Juan José Haro, director of Public Policy and Wholesale Business of Telefónica, criticized that "the short law is long because we have been discussing something that is not happening for months and years; this is essential for Argentina and ended up in a political discussion in Congress which we see difficult to solve (...) the political sphere does not make decisions quickly and frustrates our opportunities in the world of the future".

Huici replied to Haro's statement that the law went to Congress to seek stability and thus guarantee a minimum of rights for everyone. Consulted by Convergencialatina, the head of the Setic did not dare to anticipate what will happen in Congress and assured that if not approved, "we will look for other way to advance on the initiatives". During the panel he said: "We will try to persuade the legislators so that the rule can be approved".
