The new work item proposed at the Meeting was draft Recommendation ITU-T Y.CR-AV “Connectivity Requirements for autonomous vehicles”. This Recommendation will propose the requirements for connecting autonomous vehicles to the cloud real time platform. Additionally, it will contain the rationale for choosing communication channels and connection technologies that will ensure the safe operation of autonomous vehicles.
A Contribution was received containing the baseline text for the work item draft Recommendation ITU-T Y.IoT-Ath-SC "Framework of IoT-devices authentication in Smart City" which was approved at the SG20 meeting held in May 2018 in Egypt. This Contribution will be submitted to the ITU-T Study Group 20 meeting to be held from 3 to 13 December 2018 in Wuxi, China. .
Furthermore, SG20RG-EECAT experts discussed existing work items such as draft Recommendations "Framework for identification and connectivity of moving devices in a Smart City", "Information Management Digital architecture to combat counterfeiting in IoT" and "Identity of IoT devices which is based on secure procedures and ensures privacy and trust of the used IoT systems ". Progress was made to all of the above work items and the related Contributions will be submitted to the next SG20 meeting in December 2018.
Among discussion on the group’s priorities, the regional group explored the idea of establishing "interop sandbox environments" in which interoperability of IoT devices can be tested. It should also be noted that Russia, the host country of last June meeting, has launched a new project to establish an IoT Regional Laboratory, as part of the regional initiatives of the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-17). The objective of this laboratory is to conduct compliance and interoperability test on IoT equipment with relevant national and international standards.
Authorities and recommendations
The SG20RG-EECAT Meeting brought together 35 participants from 5 countries. The SG20RG-EECAT is chaired by Alexey Borodin, from Russia. During the meeting the SG20RG-EECAT experts appointed Umida Musaeva, from Uzbekistan, as Vice-chairman .
The texts of draft ITU-T Recommendations that are currently under studied by SG20, and are of interest to SG20RG-EECAT, were also discussed. Among them was draft Recommendation Y.IoT-Interop "An architecture for IoT interoperability ". The text of this Recommendation will be sent for consent at the next meeting of SG20 that will be held from 3 to 13 December 2018 in Wuxi, China. Additionally, the text of draft Recommendation ITU-T Y.CrowdSystems "Requirements and functional architecture of IoT related crowdsourced system" and draft technical report on "Interaction between physical and digital cities for building Smart and Sustainable City" were also analyzed.
Forum on Digital Economy
The meeting of the SG20RG-EECAT was held in parallel with the ITU Regional Forum on “IoT, Telecommunications and Big Data Networks as Basic Infrastructure for the Digital Economy”. This three-day event was organized by Rostelecom and the State University of Telecommunications of St. Petersburg addressing themes such as: digital economy and its deployment in the region; deployment of 5G networks as the basis of the digital economy; processing of big data; IoT applications and services based on 5G networks; and international standardization of IoT, Big Data, 5G and telecommunications networks of the future.
The main result of this parallel forum was the growing interest in standardizing key aspects of IoT deployment: from identification to data processing, interoperability and allocation of frequencies for IoT and 5G. The result of this forum was communicated to the rest of the commission by the president of SG20RG-EECAT Alexey Borodin.
