Qualcomm launches a new modem for the automotive industry

It deals with the Qualcomm 9205 LTE Modem designed for vehicles. As part of a presentation at CES 2019, Pattrick Little, responsible for the automotive division at Qualcomm, said: 75% of the cars that will be launched in the next five years will have integrated mobile connectivity.

In the future, according to the executive, the services associated with automobiles could offer greater benefits than the cars themselves. Hand in hand with 5G, connected cars will reduce traffic and road accidents. In this line, the company presented a portfolio of solutions that includes technology for intelligent brakes and the connection with signaling and crossings systems. C-V2X (Cellular vehicle-to-everything) will enable the connection between vehicles and other systems in the environment. Ford is one of the brands that will start incorporating this system in their cars in 2022. The company has presented new chips designed for its integration in the automotive field: "Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit Platform", a platform with an architecture similar to that of the Snapdragon 855. The solutions are compatible with Android, Linux and other real-time systems that are already used in the automotive industry, and lastly, the company announced that through an alliance with Amazon they will integrate Alexa and Amazon's entertainment services.
