CES 2019

5G in the eye of the storm

What happens in the 2019 edition of the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) reveals that the trade war between the United States and China has just begun. And 5G is one of the disputed treasures. The country that develops the 5G networks faster will have advantages in both for contracting services and investments. But, in addition, it will open the doors to a number of businesses related to connected things and innovations that were not yet thought of. In this sense, 5G is strategic for both countries and in CES 2019 it is noted.

Among the Americans, Qualcomm and Intel have significant presence, and AT&T and Verizon take advantage of the event to highlight the potential of 5G. Chinese brands, on the other hand, have a 20% lower share than last year. ZTE for the first time is not present since 2011, while Huawei did not bring executives to the fair this year, although it does have a large stand, while last year the CEO of Huawei delivered the keynote speech of the CES. There are signals and are responses to Donald Trump’s measures that included harsh economic sanctions against ZTE and the extradition of Huawei's financial director.

In any case, for CES, China remains one of the main international markets. Still this year they are occupying around 13% or 14% of the surface destined to exhibitions.
