The Spanish city of Valencia was not chosen at random for the 9th Week of the ITU Green Standards. In the second day of talks and exhibitions the host city was the main protagonist, detailing everything that it has advanced in recent years in terms of smart cities.
Ramón Ferri, Smart City Official of Valencia, began by clarifying that “a city is not intelligent if it is not sustainable” and that that digital transformation had the citizen as its axis. The electronic headquarters of the Valencian municipality has been operating since 2010 and currently covers 300 administrative processes, including the possibility that citizens can make electronic appearances.
In 2013, the Valencia Ciudad Inteligente (VLCi) strategy began to be drawn up and after six years of work, 230,000 users are already entering the virtual headquarters. In addition, Ferri added that during last year 200,000 files and 2.945,923 electronic documents were made; of which 818,844 have legal validation by having an electronic signature. € 5.9 million was allocated for the initiative; Red.ES contributed 70% and the rest by the municipality of Valencia.
Among the different legs on which its Smart strategy is based, is the “Geo Smart Services”, a platform with 350 layers of geolocation that citizens can consult and the “AppValencia”, with which real-time notifications are received about traffic, emergencies, water leaks; referred to maps (taxi, metro, bus or municipal bicycle service stops); and about tourism and culture, with cultural routes, augmented reality in historical monuments, virtual reality tours and audio guides of the most emblematic monuments.
