It is due to the request for compulsory social isolation decreed by the Government to control the expansion of the coronavirus. In that sense, between March 23 and 27, the use of the fixed network increased between 30% and 42%, while the mobile network rose to 20% compared to the week of 9 to 15 last month.
The applications that had the greatest growth in the fixed network were WhatsApp (150%), Netflix (102%) and TikTok (95%), a fact that would correspond to the high use of mobile devices connected to the fixed WiFi network. On mobile, the ones that grew the most were Netflix (98%), WhatsApp (52%) and TikTok (49%).
Despite this increase, operators did not report to the Osiptel (Supervisory Agency for Private Investment in Telecommunications) about global saturation in the networks, although an operator reported an occupation of up to 80% in the mobile network, and of up to 90% in the fixed network in certain areas of the country.
