Galapagos Cable Systems is the company in charge of the "Galapagos to the continent" cable

President Lenín Moreno said that the construction of a new submarine cable is already underway, it will link continental Ecuador and the Galapagos with the world. The project, he explained, will allow providing high-capacity, high-quality service for national and international fixed and mobile telephony services, fiber optic broadband Internet access, 4G and 5G mobile services in the future. Although the president did not give the name of the company, in consultation, the Ministry of Telecommunications and the Information Society said that the company in charge of the investment, with an estimated value of US$ 50 million, is Galápagos Cable Systems. Investors will be responsible for the construction, administration, operation and maintenance of the cable, they explained. They also reported that the technical-economic analysis was carried out for the deployment of the cable, which is in the stage of defining the marine route. It is expected to be working by May 2021.
