Telefónica would wait for the result of the 5G tender to value the company and define the sale

According to information from different areas, the sale of the operator in Chile is a close reality, despite which its General Manager, Roberto Muñoz, does not stop stating that whatever happens, they will continue working as they have been doing. In this sense, his latest actions are seen, such as the application for the 5G tender, the investments in fiber optics of the past year and the projections of having the country connected 100% by 2025.

Meanwhile, although it is known that Telefónica needs to sell its subsidiaries in Latin America due to cash problems, there are pending issues that would make the valuation of the company and thus would be waiting for definitions. For example, the result of the 5G tender. Regarding the sale, it would not be decided if it will be the complete package, with the least profitable units, such as home fixed telephony and Internet connections with old technology, ADSL, or to sell or seek a strategic partner for its most profitable unit, the fiber optic home. In this sector, Movistar has more than 50% of the market. As for interested parties, the names of Claro, Liberty Latinoamérica, owners of VTR in Chile, Novator, the fund that owns Wom, are still being shuffled. There is also talk of Millicom and LinzorCapital, who bought Mundo Pacífico in 2019. Entel would have left the competition.

Oscar Stark, president of the firm, states that alternatives are being evaluated to obtain the necessary funds, including the possibility of adding private partners. And he believes that in 18 months "the situation will be resolved."
