A new scenario of competition is looming in Mexico with the completion of the 90 MHz bid in the 700 MHz band for the Shared Network. Existing operators started the race to capture more spectrum to help them improve performance, thus differentiating themselves in a market where mobile penetration still has room for growth. According to the quarterly reports published by the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT), the service penetration reached 86% per 100 inhabitants in the second quarter of 2016, a low figure compared to other markets in the region: Argentina (145%), Brazil (140%), Chile (149%) or Colombia (116%).
