The operator had to modify its fiber deployment model to optimize costs and move forward, said Adrián Contureyuzon, Manager of Access Engineering and Fiber Optics at Telecom, during the FTTH Latam Conference 2018. In 2016 the deployment of Telecom was greenfield (they built the network from scratch and took it to the department), but later it became browfield (taking advantage of its current infrastructure). "The other model was very expensive", said Contureyuzon. "To avoid civil works, we rely on our primary infrastructure, which is almost all underground with copper wiring, where we implement microsubpipeline system (a smaller pipeline inside the pipeline already buried) and there we blow the fiber", he said.
