In 2017, the countries of the region received US$161.911 billion of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), 3.6% less than that recorded in 2016, according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). FDI in Latin America fell for the third consecutive year, although at a lower rate than in previous years, and accumulated a decrease of 20% compared to the historical maximum recorded in 2011.
