Although Foreign Direct Investment fell for the third consecutive year, the Asian giant expands its business in the region through mergers and acquisitions.

In 2017, the countries of the region received US$161.911 billion of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), 3.6% less than that recorded in 2016, according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). FDI in Latin America fell for the third consecutive year, although at a lower rate than in previous years, and accumulated a decrease of 20% compared to the historical maximum recorded in 2011.
