Teresa Gomes, CEO of Internet for All, gave details of the initiative of Telefónica, Facebook, CAF and the IDB at the Lima event this week. She stressed that in Peru there are about 6 million Peruvians without an adequate mobile internet service. Therefore, they initially faced a field investigation, to create a model focused on the rural population. This work was carried out in 2016 and 2017 in Peru and Brazil: 53 villages were investigated in all types of orography, between 250 and 3,000 inhabitants, with 330 interviews, and thus managed to design a scheme that was sustainable and open to all actors of the sector.
