Víctor Cantero, president of the Cámara de Cableoperadores de Paraguay (CCP) (Paraguayan Chamber of Cable Operators), offered the most emphatic comments on the situation experienced by SME cable operators in Latin America. In the EncVirtualTel 2020 Virtual Telecommunications Meeting, he indicated that 90% of the CCP members had a 50% drop in their collection between March, April and May, and despite the recovery from June and July, he is aware that he will not recover what was lost. “The challenge is to survive. In Paraguay, government did not demand services not be cut off, but the market did. As the benefits of the state companies could not be interrupted due to non-payment, the responsibility of not cutting them was transferred to the rest of the private actors”, he explained.
