The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Communications reported that Brazil joined the Humboldt submarine cable development project, which plans to link Chile with Australia.
Both ministries indicated that this project will complete Brazil's fiber optic connection with its neighbors and that in the coming months technical teams from the countries involved will deepen discussions on the financial and technical modalities that the project will have in the long term.
Chilean Foreign Minister Andrés Allamand said: “The accession of Brazil gives this project a definite boost. Not only because the volume of traffic contributed by Brazil is essential for economic viability, but also because its participation is also essential for the political viability of this project”.
The official considered the initiative as “extraordinarily significant for regional integration. Together with Argentina we are three countries participating in this project, and we expect that Uruguay, Paraguay and later, Bolivia will join. This project creates a closeness between South America, and the entire Asia Pacific and the Indo Pacific, an area of ??enormous economic advance, sustained growth, advanced technology and the expansion of its middle classes, where two of the most populated powers worldwide are located, such as China and India, which represent a natural destination for exports from our region”.
