Luis Delamer, Telefónica's HispAm Wholesale Director, highlighted Telefónica's projects in Chile and Colombia on network sharing. In the first case, he stressed: "It helped us financially and in focus, to be able to serve the user and not focus on deployment."
With the creation of On NET Fibra, in Chile the 2 million passed homes that Telefónica previously had were transferred to the new network and the forecast is to reach 3.5 million passed homes by the end of the year. "It's multiplying very quickly," Delamer said.
As for Colombia, with similar characteristics, the number of homes passed is currently 1.2 million, and we aim to reach 4 million by the end of 2023.
Delamer also talked about the agreement with AT&T in Mexico: it allowed us to expand coverage from 53% to 83% and traffic increased by 1.8. "Sharing has worked for us and we have more projects to move forward," assured Telefónica’s official.
In the same panel at Internet Day 2022, Luis Quinelli, Sion CEO, considered that network sharing is the central axis through which the industry will develop, although cable companies still have a territorial point of view. "No one loses out with this model," he said.
