NPlay Southern Cone 2023

Antonio Roncoroni: "From DNU 690, investment fell 50% and cooperatives lost 120% against inflation"

The head of Fecosur, Antonio Roncoroni, participated today in the ICT Policies and Regulation panel on the second day of Nplay Southern Cone 2023, where he reviewed the impact of DNU 690 on the industry.

Among the main problems, the leader listed that "investment fell 50%, profits were destroyed, customers were not won and there was a loss of sustainability of companies, which now live on what they can and are on the verge of an almost terminal crisis," he said.

The head of Fecosur acknowledged that Enacom accompanied the sector with higher increases than other market segments, but said that even so "they are 120% below inflation. We have registered a loss of that level since the price freeze until today. The system does not support downward price regulation."

Despite the analysis, Roncoroni considered that Argentina is facing "a new opportunity" and called on the audience to work together. "The state has resources to get out of DNU 690. It has the Universal Service Fund that could be used to leverage demand," and foreign platforms could contribute to that fund.

Government analyzes partial privatization of Copaco

The state operator is going through a delicate moment. Its income does not cover operating expenses and it must fulfil a debt obligation of US$110 million. Furthermore, the lack of investments led to the obsolescence of its infrastructure. Oscar Stark, president of the firm, states that alternatives are being evaluated to obtain the necessary funds, including the possibility of adding private partners. And he believes that in 18 months "the situation will be resolved."
