Brazil: Review of 6 Ghz decision could lead to the “slow death of Wifi”

This was warned by Basilio Rodríguez Pérez, president of Lac ISP, the Federation of Associations and Chambers of Internet Providers of Latin America and the Caribbean, during the first panel of Nplay 2025.

The issue will possibly be taken to court, according to the panelist. “It is very important for small operators to have the entire 1,200 MHz available for WiFi. More than 80% of all usage, when a user is on their smartphone, is on WiFi. 4G or 5G is only used on the street or in places without WiFi. If we are left with only a small part of the band, it will be a slow death for WiFi, and that cannot happen,” he warned.
