ALAI questions the “network fee” proposal promoted by the country's main operators

The Alliance for an Open Internet (ALAI) has released a new study challenging the "network fee" proposal promoted by Conexis, the association representing the country's major telecom operators. The proposal seeks to charge large platforms such as Meta, Alphabet, Netflix and TikTok for the traffic they generate.

According to the report, 77% of the revenues collected would go to the major operators, 6% to seven mid-sized regional ISPs, and only 15% would be distributed among more than 10,000 small providers.

Abrint warned that this initiative would harm small providers. “The large operators want to set themselves apart from the smaller ones, who are gaining ground,” said Cristiane Sanches, vice chair of Abrint’s board, during a panel held on the first day of the event.
