Court orders Amazon to pay US$7.2 million to actors over intellectual property rights

Santiago’s 1st Civil Court ruled in favor of Chileactores in its lawsuit against Amazon Prime Video, ordering the payment of neighboring rights that had remained unpaid for four years. The ruling was based on violations of intellectual property law.

The decision establishes that streaming platforms operating in Chile must comply with local law and fairly compensate artistic work.

This is one of the first rulings to recognize this obligation in the digital environment. The court rejected the argument that servers located abroad could be used as an excuse to evade local jurisdiction, reaffirming that if audiovisual content is offered in Chile, such activity must comply with national regulations.
