América Móvil's net income grew 79.6% due to fixed broadband business and strengthening of Mexican peso

The operator's results for the fourth quarter show signs of recovery, even with new containment measures in several of the countries where it operates. In any case, the income drop (-3.1%) is still maintained. For the entire fiscal year 2020, América Móvil reported a 30.8% decrease in net income and stability in income (+0.9%).

América Móvil's report for the period October-December 2020, accompanied by results for the whole of last year, shows light and dark. On the one hand, in the last quarter, net income was US$1.857 billion, leveraged in the fixed broadband business (208,000 new accesses were added); an expansion in the mobile subscriber base (6.8 million were added, doubling the previous quarter); and the strengthening of the Mexican peso against the U.S. dollar (also considering the Colombian and Chilean pesos, the increase was 10%). On the other, revenues continue to show challenges: they totaled US$12.695 billion, 3.1% less year-on-year, due to a 9.4% drop in handset sales and stability in service revenues (-0.3%).
