Intelsat tests a new rural connectivity model closer to the end user in Latin America

The first experience takes place in Peru, where the satellite operator reached 70 OIMR (Rural Mobile Infrastructure Operator) sites, led by Andesat. As George Farkass, Director of Networks in Latin America said to Convergencialatina, under this scheme Intelsat collaborates with the MNO in monitoring and forecasting traffic and VAS designs to make the service more cost-effective.

Intelsat reached 70 OIMR sites in Peru under a new rural connectivity model. This figure was reached at the end of June, according to what George Farkass, director of Networks of the satellite operator in Latin America, told Convergencialatina. Each OIMR (Rural Mobile Infrastructure Operator) site reaches, on average, a population of 650 people, adding a total of about 45,000 are covered with the service.
