Challenges and lessons of the unprecedented cyberattack against the state structure of a country

On April 18, a massive cyberattack began against Costa Rican government institutions. The attack was successful in encrypting a number of databases, although according to official information, subsequent attacks failed to penetrate. But there are doubts about the scope of the breach in digital defense systems. The Ministry of Finance had to open a parallel website because the original is still blocked.

Delays in Customs, suspension of online procedures and delays in salary payments to police and public employees, were some of the problems that the Tico government had to face as a result of the cyber-attack that exposed the need to reformulate official security policies of data.
