Hernán Mariño, Network Engeneering Director at Tigo, assured at Conecta Colombia event, held yesterday, that it is not possible to face two investments simultaneously: “In Colombia, 4G penetration is at 50%. The first thing we must do as operators is to walk in that 4G deployment, in that deep Colombia. 4G networks are going to have their traffic peaks in 2029 or 2030 and then 5G is going to help us with increased capacities and traffic”. For the executive, it will be also necessary to wait for the 5G ecosystem to be built in the world, due to the cost of the terminals, which is currently inaccessible for Colombian population.
