A cross-party group of senators introduced a constitutional reform bill seeking to establish “special digital territories,” which would allow infrastructure for the storage, processing and safeguarding of data and digital services to be established and foreign law and jurisdiction to be recognized over certain data.
The mechanism would be implemented through international treaties, with the aim of ensuring that they do not affect national security, critical infrastructure, essential services, criminal law or the protection of personal data.
