MWC Barcelona 2025 to seek to showcase practical cases of network “APIfication"

A new edition of the GSMA event will kick off on Monday. Previous announcements point to the mobile networks exhibition for developers and third-party services as one of the main focuses. AI will be analysed from multiple angles, with Agentic AI taking centre stage, as well as automation possibilities for operators.

In the days leading up to the start of MWC Barcelona 2025, the APIfication of the network, and of the economy in general, was set as an agenda item. The Open Gateway initiative will be tested with practical implementations, such as the one presented by MasOrange, Telefónica, Vodafone and the i2CAT research center to show the first use case of the multi-operator innovation laboratory: there, companies and developers will be able to explore and use the capabilities of telcos through standardized APIs. The specific proof of concept is a mobile app designed by the Spanish company Laude to guarantee a safe environment for people protected by restraining orders.
