Argentina and Mexico, countries best positioned in the region to go towards 5G

During the Seminario Internacional de Telecomunicaciones (SIT) (International Telecommunications Seminar) organized by Telecom yesterday in Buenos Aires, Caroline Gabriel, Content Director of the Small Cell Forum, said that Argentina and Mexico are the two countries with the best road maps towards the 5G in the region. Her findings are supported by a survey conducted twice a year and whose results were anticipated in the framework of the SIT. She added that as a barrier in Argentina she finds the cost of small cells. "It may be easy to deploy in Buenos Aires, but in all other provinces of the country it will take longer because low latency networks are needed", she explained, although she was an opitimist and said that "the country is advanced in technology".

Miguel Fernandez, CTO of Telecom, affirmed that the operator completed the transformation towards 4G and that they are ready for 5G. In addition, he confirmed that, despite the local economic situation, they will continue with the US$5 billion investment plan that may be delayed, but without changes in the strategy. During 2018 they invested 25% of their income and managed to execute the plan they had drawn up for the year.

On June 12 and 13, Grupo Convergencia will hold the 16th edition of the event Latin America Mobile Revolution in Buenos Aires, where mobile data, big data, robotics, machine learning, IoT, fintech, artificial intelligence and 5G spectrum will be discussed. The meeting is at the Novotel Hotel in Buenos Aires. Be a sponsor or book your ticket at eventos@convergencia.com.
