Government launches free Internet service for debtors

The government has launched the free service Let's stay connected (Mantengámonos conectados, in Spanish), which establishes a basic Internet plan for users who cannot pay their debts for benefits during the coronavirus quarantine.

"Supreme Decree 4250 (establishes conditions and measures for the continuity of telecommunications and postal services during quarantine) states that, for those people who could not pay their debts, a free internet service will be activated from June 8 with a basic plan that will keep them connected,” said the Vice Minister of Telecommunications, René Sánchez, who reports to the Ministry of Public Works, Services and Housing.

He explained that operators or providers of post-paid, prepaid, mobile internet and cable television services will apply the free service "Let's stay connected" to users who have at least two unpaid bills within the payment deadline or do not comply with their payments plan.
