In view of the institutional changes stated in the new Telecommunications Organic Act, today the last meeting of the Consejo Nacional de Telecomunicaciones, Conatel (Telecom regulator) will be held. The details of the negotiation to authorize the signing of contracts between Government and Claro and Movistar operators, will be examined as reported by Roberto Aspiazu, member of Conatel on behalf of the Chambers of Production and president of the Asociación de Empresas de Telecomunicaciones, Asetel (Association of Telecommunications Companies).
At the meeting, the report of the Secretaría Nacional de Telecomunicaciones, Senatel (National Telecommunications Secretariat) and of the Ministry of Telecommunications (Mintel) containing a study on the 4G tender of the region to be taken as reference in the economic issues of the contracts will be assessed. According Aspiazu, will also discuss the restriction on imports of intelligent devices.
"I understand that currently, details as to the conditions to sign the contract, which in the case of Claro will be 60 Mhz and regarding Movistar, 50 Mhz, are being settled" said Aspiazu, who recalled that the contract will not only be for the new 4G network but also will increase the 3G spectrum.
