There were 44.3 million mobile broadband subscribers in the third quarter of 2014

The service observed a 13.7% growth compared to the three previous months, according to the last statistical report of the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT, for its Spanish acronym).The document is in the first edition of new metrics published by the regulator, who used bases of methodologies applied by the National Institute of Statistic and Geography (Inegi), the International Telecommunications Union (UIT) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and development (OECD).

77% of the contracts are prepaid, and the remaining 23%, postpaid. Under the first modality, 89.1% of the clients have Telcel plans. The branch of America Movil is followed by Telefónica (7.8%) and Iusacell and Unefón (3.1% together). With regard to postpaid plans, Telcel continues holding first place (71.1%), followed by Nextel (15.7%), Iusacell and Unefón (7.2%) and Telefonica (6%).
