Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (Mitic) official. Alejandro Peralta Vierci, head of the portfolio, told Convergencialatinathat they will give greater priority to infrastructure and technology and that this will be reflected in good communications. As objectives, they will draw up a digital agenda to shorten the digital divide that mainly exists in the country’s interior. They plan to connect 5,000 schools in 5 years and will work to create a National Fiber Optic Network. The Mitic will have two vice-ministries: the one of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and of Communication. It will also be the nexus of the Executive with Conatel, Copaco and the Space Agency, although "they will preserve their autonomy". The new ministry is a merger of the Secretariat of Information and Communication for Development (SICOM, in Spanidh) and the National Secretariat of Information and Communication Technologies (Senatics, in Spanish), so it will incorporate the resources of both institutions.
