MTC proposes to postpone the analog blackout for two years

The draft Supreme Decree of the portfolio suggests modifying the Master Plan for the Implementation of Digital Terrestrial Television in Peru: it seeks to delay the analog blackout, scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2020, until 2022. The measure is based on the lack of knowledge on the subject in the population.

A 2019 Television and Radio Consumption survey conducted by the Radio and Television Advisory Council shows that 68% of the population does not know what DTT is.

According to the general director of Authorizations in Telecommunications of the MTC, Mariella Carrasco, "the proposal has among other objectives, the modification of the term of the cessation of the analog signal for territory 1 (Lima and Callao), from the end of the year 2020 to the year 2022. This decision does not change the date of cessation of analog signals throughout the national territory, which continues to be planned for the year 2028.”

Comments can be sent to be added to the final decree of the MTC until December 20.
