The Directing Council of the Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency) has updated its 2015-2024 Strategic Plan, which highlights the objective of expanding broadband Internet access in Brazilian homes, which currently reaches 74.68% and wants to reach 91% at the end of 2023.
Other objectives include expanding the coverage of the transport network (fiber optic backhaul), from 4,012 municipalities to 4,883 municipalities; increase the contracted average fixed broadband speed from 45 Mbps to 150 Mbps; increase the percentage of the population covered by mobile broadband service, from 97.3% to 98.65%; increase the percentage of households with rural broadband from 44% to 73.04% and increase the density of fixed broadband from 46.8% to 57%.
