Marcelo Cataldo, president of Tigo, was categorical when he indicated in Andicom 2020 that “trying in Colombia to graduate from what would be a master's degree in 5G, without having finished the university that is 4G, seems to me a nonsense on the part of the country and of the operators”.
However, he said that today in Colombia there are 10 million people partially connected to 2G and 3G technologies, so that the priority challenge should be to expand coverage so that this population has access to 4G technology. "The reality is that today a 5G terminal for mobile phones can be worth US$1,626, how many citizens is that good for?" To go deeper, he indicated that the country lags regionally in 4G penetration, indicating that in Chile they exceed 90% and in Brazil, 73%, while Colombia it still does not reach 50% in this coverage.
