Hybrid proposal by operators to avoid interference in 3.5 GHz band

The largest mobile operators in the country presented a proposal by which they propose the use of filters in the first stage of implementation of 5G in the main cities of the country, to later proceed to the migration of C-band satellite TV where it is currently located to the Ku band. In this way, interference between 5G and satellite TV in the 3.5 GHz band would be avoided and spectrum bidding would be accelerated in that band.

This proposal, called “hybrid”, proposes that in the specifications for the spectrum tender for 5G, the simultaneous mitigation with the implementation of 5G in the largest cities of the country be authorized starting this year. The specifications would also include a clause determining the migration of satellite TV to the Ku band in "x" number of years (minimum three), conditioning this migration to the future bidding of the C band that would be released (3.7 GHz at 4 , 2 GHz).

The operators affirm that this hybrid proposal is the cheapest in the long term and indicated that based on the cost calculations made by the regulator's technicians, the immediate migration would have a high cost and would only free up the installation of 5G in the main cities of the country only after two years.
