Telco Transformation Latam - Call to regionalize infrastructure sharing for 5G approach

</p>

Spokespeople gathered at a panel on 5G in Brazil last week agreed that infrastructure sharing shortage reached "absurd" levels. In the framework of the virtual event Telco Transformation Latam, Geraldo Araujo, Senior Advisor of Accenture, and Luis Antonio Lima, VP of Technology and Digital Evolution of Algar Telecom, warned of the problems "of all kinds" generated by the profusion of towers and antennas and advocated a "regionalization of network sharing".

Luis Minoru Shibata, director of Highline, pointed out that the passive infrastructure provider company has 25,000 sites in Brazil. “We can help further in the value chain, offering passive and active infrastructure to regional operators. We are looking at the spectrum tender that will be held soon in Brazil. There are opportunities for new players to appear, and Highline is going to have a strategy in which it will treat young and old alike. If many operators in Brazil do not follow this modality, it will be very difficult for them to offer a fixed or wireless service”, he said.

For Oi, there are certain points to review about network neutrality, to make segmentation and slicing possible, the creation of a virtualized environment with new technologies and the entry of other disruptive ones such as Open RAN and 5G Standalone.
