The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, admitted to the press that the state company Litio para México (LitioMx) will accept private investments for the exploration and exploitation of lithium.
LitioMx “is public-private. It would not be enough for us to be only public, it requires a lot of investment, "said the president, with which he backed down on the idea of a state monopoly on this mineral.
López Obrador added that the possibility of a public-private partnership has aroused the interest of investors from the United States. “This is a plan that we have already discussed with President Biden, and I think it will have a lot of support, it is of interest to national and foreign investors, for investment funds,” he said.
López Obrador appointed Pablo Daniel Taddei as general director of LitioMX, whose headquarters will be located in Sonora.
