Member States of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) completed elections for the organization's five top management positions on Friday 30, with voting for the directors of the bureaus responsible for the ITU's three main areas of work.
Mario Maniewicz of Uruguay was re-elected for his second term as director of the Radiocommunication Bureau (ITU-R), which is responsible for maintaining and implementing the Radio Regulations treaty.
Seizo Onoe, of Japan, was elected director of the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (ITU-T), responsible for the development of international technical standards for telecommunications and ICTs.
Cosmas Zavazava of Zimbabwe was elected director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau (ITU-D), responsible for mobilizing global efforts to connect the unconnected.
In this second week of the PP22 Plenipotentiary Conference, Member States will vote for the 12 members of the Radio Regulations Board and the 48 members of the ITU Council.
