The Director of Regulatory and Institutional Affairs of Claro Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, Alejandro Quiroga López, spoke on the second day of Nplay 2023.
He stated that due to the impact of the macroeconomy, the mobile industry has been experiencing 10 consecutive years of falling ARPU at a global level, with magnitudes that reach 60% in countries such as Canada or France, a fact that, he analyzed, "marks a reality of market change."
In this framework, international experience shows that "there are no significant positive incremental revenues" from the implementation of 5G. "It is not a magic solution. It is an option that has to be made to meet the evolution of traffic that will not be possible with 4G."
The executive proposed of auction designed in Brazil as an example: he spoke of "a very realistic model, which prioritized deployment."
And he concluded, regarding the Argentine market in particular: "We need an agenda that will transcend governments. To have the priority of going to the target with the resources we have. Not being realistic is the first mistake. We have to generate realistic expectations knowing that Argentina has a good connectivity service."
