Telefónica Hispam launches its open and software-defined Telco Cloud with partners

Telefónica has announced one of the most significant transformations in the architecture of its telecommunications service network with the launch of its Telco Cloud in several Spanish-speaking capitals.

Telefónica's Telco Cloud combines hybrid cloud (public and private), software-defined, convergence of third-party native cloud services, and the use of open-source code.

Telefónica Hispanoamérica is the first telecommunications group in the region to implement this model. In this evolution process, they established partnerships with Whitestack, whose main feature is the use of open-source technologies through a scalable cloud infrastructure.

The hybrid cloud replaces proprietary architectures and private clouds. The user plane (which processes traffic) is as close as possible to the customer and preserves the needs for control, proximity to users, performance, and compliance with legislation.

The control plane (which manages services) is taken to scalable clouds where it is possible to handle voice or data traffic with the same levels of performance and security as using dedicated hardware.

In addition to the provider Whitestack, Telefónica mentioned Intel and IPInfusion as companies they have collaborated with on this technological platform.
