EU applies DMA and fines Apple with €500 million and Meta with €200 million

European Union antitrust regulators have imposed fines of €500 million on Apple and €200 million on Meta. These are the first sanctions stemming from the enforcement of the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which is intended to curb the power of Big Tech.

The EU fines could inflame the bloc's tensions with the United States government. President Donald Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on countries that penalize US companies.

Apple and Meta announced they will appeal the fines, which are the result of a year-long investigation by the European Commission, the EU's executive branch.
