Telefónica Movistar Chile names Spanish executive Juan Vicente Martín Fontelles as new CEO

The company announced in a statement that, starting June 1, Juan Vicente Martín Fontelles will assume the role of President and CEO of Telefónica Movistar Chile, replacing Roberto Muñoz Laporte, who will leave the organization after more than 25 years with the group to pursue new professional challenges.

Martín Fontelles, born in Madrid, has been with the Telefónica Group since 1995, during which time he has served as B2B Director. This unexpected change comes amid persistent rumors of a potential sale of the subsidiary, although the company continues to deny that such an operation is part of its immediate plans.
