Fiber Connect Latam 2025

ENACOM has a certification homologation regulation for equipment

Juan Martín Ozores, the regulator’s acting head, participated in this morning’s regulatory panel at Fiber Connect Latam 2025. He announced that the certification homologation regulation will be published soon to facilitate the go-to-market process for CPEs, smartphones, and other equipment. “We have been working in various working groups, reviewing regulations and collaborating with teams from other regulators such as those in Brazil, Colombia, Chile, the U.S. FCC, as well as suppliers and leading brands that face the challenge of launching their equipment and products simultaneously with other markets (something that was not previously possible in Argentina).”

Ozores added that the new regulation will replace 15 existing ENACOM rules, some of which are decades old. In an interview with Convergencia, he explained that the homologation process could be slowed down, taking up to 4 to 5 months when focused solely on ENACOM’s tasks. However, a private ecosystem of labs and certification bodies could participate in the process to accelerate product time-to-market.

During the event, the regulator’s head also discussed the latest programs published related to the National Critical Communications Infrastructure Plan. Regarding the initiative for a neutral wholesale network, he commented: “We are now entering an implementation phase where we expect major companies to start submitting projects. We aim for the network to be technology-agnostic so that ISPs can leverage the infrastructure and serve underserved markets.”
