David Agnoluzzi, CEO of Soluciones WISP SA, said that the shift toward WiFi 6 is no longer just a technological improvement, but a necessity to maintain the user experience. He explained that ISPs are increasingly handling content delivery at the network, server, and cache levels, but that the new challenge lies in ensuring a strong WiFi experience in the home.
In this sense, he warned that there remains a significant installed base of dual-band ONUs that is not sufficient to handle the growth of streaming, connected devices, and simultaneous usage.
He emphasized that improving home WiFi networks also opens up monetization opportunities and proposed moving toward value-added models such as mesh networks or WiFi-as-a-Service schemes (i.e., offering WiFi as a service managed by the ISP). This adds value to the subscription, he noted.
