Telefónica and Cellnex will equip a total of 3,800 mobile towers with backup battery systems to prevent widespread network disruptions in the event of power outages.
The plan is to complete this modernization before June 2027. The batteries will provide two hours of continuous power autonomy for 100% of the towers included in the contract.
The agreement between Telefónica and Cellnex is being implemented under the Energy as a Service (EaaS) commercial model, under which Cellnex assumes ownership, technical installation and maintenance of the energy storage equipment at the leased towers.
