Presidential spokesperson Adrián Ravier provided details of the program to bring satellite internet to 6,000 schools following the agreement between the National Communications Agency (Ente Nacional de Comunicaciones, Enacom) and Starlink. Starlink’s contribution, which includes the equipment kits and two years of internet service, is valued at US$10 million. Meanwhile, the regulator will contribute about US$12 million from the Universal Service Fund to finance the third year of service, equipment installation, technical support and monitoring of the entire network.
The official added that many of the institutions included in the initiative “have very limited connectivity or no internet access at all.”
