Fixed broadband reached 10.49 million connections in the first quarter

In the first quarter of 2026, Colombia reached 10.49 million fixed broadband connections, an increase of nearly 950,000 connections compared with the same period a year earlier, according to the Quarterly ICT Sector Bulletin.

The report also highlights an improvement in service quality, as the national average download speed reached 255.2 Mbps, an annual increase of 17.5 Mbps, in line with the growth of fiber optics as the dominant technology, which now accounts for 6.2 million connections.

In terms of penetration, the country currently records 19 connections per 100 inhabitants, maintaining an upward trend since 2023. At the regional level, Bogotá leads penetration with 31 connections per 100 inhabitants, while Antioquia records the highest average residential speeds, exceeding 335 Mbps.

In the mobile segment, performance was more stable. The country reached 49.6 million mobile internet connections, with a slight variation compared with the previous quarter. Penetration remains at 93 connections per 100 inhabitants. 4G continues to be the leading technology, with 36.5 million connections, while 5G continues its steady growth and now totals 10 million connections, with quarterly growth of 7.7%, although its coverage remains concentrated in around 12% of the country’s municipalities.

Mobile telephony reached 94.6 million active lines, consolidating its position as the country’s main communication channel. In contrast, fixed telephony declined by nearly 760,000 lines compared with last year, reaching 5.35 million active lines.
