MinTIC cancels fiber optic project for the Amazonia

At the instruction of ICT Minister Alexandra Falla, the FTIC-LP-001-2026 tender for the Putumayo fiber-optic cable project, including the project and oversight, has been canceled. The process had an estimated value of US$370 million.

“Since her appointment, Minister Falla had been monitoring this process at both the administrative and legal levels to make an informed decision regarding this project, consistent with the principles set out by President Abelardo de la Espriella. Once she took office, and in parallel with her work to restore connectivity in regions affected by Monday’s earthquake, she established a specialized team to conduct an in-depth review of this tender,” Mintic said in a statement.

The project was initially designed at a cost of US$221 million, according to CONPES 4167 of 2025. In 2026, its value was increased by 67.1% from the amount initially planned, in accordance with CONPES 4195 of 2026. Authorization for future-year appropriations was issued on Aug. 4, 2026.
